Lower House Guest House

Lower House is a fine Georgian town house situated in the centre of the small town of Callington in East Cornwall. Close to Bodmin Moor and Dartmoor as well as the south coast, this part of the county has much to offer at all times of the year. 

Callington is a former mining town in the Tamar Valley, recently designated as an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty – there are superb walks all around this part of Cornwall. Additionally, there are several National Trust properties and gardens close by, notably the Cotehele estate. The St Mellion Golf Club is not far away and there are excellent restaurants and pubs in the area.

Lower House is open all year. It dates back to the early 18th century. Previous owners include the Coryton family and more recently the Dingles, notably Michael Foot’s mother, who was married from Lower House.

We are a Visit Britain 4 star Guest House. Our rooms are well proportioned, all have ensuite bathrooms or shower rooms and feature several original works of art, modern flat screen TVs and WiFi connections.

We hold the SECTA (South East Tourist Association) Green Acorn Award for environmentally friendly accommodation which includes solar thermal panels for our hot water and solar PV panels for our electricity.

We offer comfortable accommodation in four en-suite bedrooms:
One spacious family room, one large double room, one smaller double/twin room and one single room. Our bed quilts were made especially for us in Vietnam. Each room features an individual welcome pack with plenty of information on the area, individually-controlled heating, flat screen colour television with a DVD player and also a hair dryer.

We are pleased to offer a smoke-free environment at Lower House and have  supplied you with a kettle and a wide selection of Fairtrade teas, herbal teas, coffee and hot chocolate in your room. Although we welcome children we do not cater for guest pets – our cat nearly left home when finding a strange dog in the house!
All our rooms have original artworks and ‘artistic’ names. ‘Work in Progress’ is ‘only the name of the room’!
